Picnic

On Sunday we had a picnic with friends.  It was a lot of fun but we forgot to bring bathing suits.  That didn't stop Emily from just walking into the sprinkler and enjoying the cool shower!  She hung out in the sprinkler for a bit, clothes, hat and cup-in-hand!  Nolan borrowed his pal's bathing suit which he was pretty excited about!
Then Emily enjoyed her first flavorful watermelon (winter melon just isn't all that yummy).  She sat back and enjoyed that too!
Then she chilled with a pal and relaxed for a bit.
A great time was had by all!

What A Luxury

I didn't snap any photos because cell phones were not allowed in the spa!  Ha, how fantastic.  And what's kind of even more fun is the website doesn't have photos of the spa on it either.  It's my little secret.  But I will describe my two days at the Spa at Norwich Inn, my mother's day gift from my family.

I arrived around 10am on Friday to the inn and my room was ready!  So I checked in, unpacked and grabbed my bathing suit to head down to the spa which is at the other end of the building.  I check into the spa and was given flip flops, a robe, a locker and a tour of the property.  There's a juice bar with drinks (alcoholic and non) and sandwiches and snacks.  There's a pool, gym and workout room where the fitness classes are held.  There is a relaxation room with 8 chaise lounge chairs and blankets, dim lighting and soothing nature music.  In the locker room there is a lounge area with water, tea and fresh fruit (complimentary).  Also are bathrooms, steam room, sauna and hot tub which fits about 12.  There are also showers and vanities.

So I put on my suit and head for the hot tub.  I had an 11:30 facial scheduled so I had some time to relax and enjoy.  I enjoyed the hot tub for about 10 minutes, then headed to the sauna for about 2 (whew, I was hot) and then floated around in the pool to cool off for a bit.  Then I had an orange, some water and relaxed by the pool then headed for the facial.  The facial was amazing!  My face felt so clean and soft and even strangers mentioned how I was 'glowing'.  I then had lunch in the pub- champagne, cheese plate and veggie quesadilla.  YUM!  After lunch I headed back into the spa.  I hung out around the pool for a bit and then back into the hot tub but not for too long because I had a 230 massage.

During my massage I thought to myself  "I'm not sure I've ever felt this relaxed'.  It was wonderful.  Amazing.  After my massage I hung out in the relaxation room which was VERY relaxing.  After I enjoyed that feeling a bit I then headed up for some tea and scones in a very pretty hallway with lovely potted plants. That's when the weather started clearing up and I watched some people sit outside and socialize.  I was enjoying the quiet and stillness of my visit.  It's not very often I can enjoy quiet.  When I do, it is often interrupted by someone else's needs - to go pee, to be awoken from a nap, to need something.  So to have such stillness and quietness was my favorite part of this time away.

After tea I wandered back to the spa.  I had 630pm yoga class and wasn't really sure what to do with myself, frankly.  I didn't want to go in the hot tub again, it was so very hot so I decided I'd be done with that.  I showered and then headed outside with a glass of wine to flip through a very new-age magazine.  Then I just sat and enjoyed the garden (ha, which is funny because the garden is one of my bigger stressors but to enjoy someone else's was lovely).  Then I headed inside for my yoga class which was a bit more challenging than I was looking for but still lovely.  I had an 8pm dinner reservation.

I headed to dinner, ordered dessert (ooh la la) and went to bed at 10pm in my giant king sized bed.  The next morning I woke up at 656am... really?  I felt great though so I lounged in bed for a bit, had a lovely breakfast at the restaurant and headed down to the spa for a guided meditation which I really really loved.  After that I went into the relaxation room for about an hour, just relaxing and reading my book.  I had another spa treatment at 11:30, a body polish which was different than I though- very rough and left me feeling scraped and sore but I'm glad I did it!  Then I shopped in the boutique and headed up for lunch, then back to the relaxation room for more quiet time and then I packed up and headed home.

This trip really invigorated me.  It was so lovely to have time away and alone.  It's strange, I feel like I'm not ever alone and yet I feel like I'm too often alone.  So to have this and to indulge and to pamper and to be still was so very special.  I loved it.  I loved my time there.  And like a visit to Hawaii, words just don't really describe how you feel when you are there.  There is just something about it.  It was really wonderful.  Thank you to my lovely husband for treating me to this.  You have no idea how much I needed this!

Heading Out

I'm heading out of town for a few days, thank you to my awesome husband who gave me a night away!
Will I miss these two peanuts?
They sure are cute when they are happy!
Of course I'll miss them but I'm looking forward to my time away to come back refreshed and renewed!

A Good Sport

Nolan started soccer this week.  It is so darn adorable I just can't take it.
aye aye captain!
It's a UK based lesson plan so the coach has a super accent.  The first lesson they pretended they were pirates and the ball was their treasure.  So they were all on a pirate ship and the waves were making it go left and right and they needed to dribble their balls this way and that.

Sometimes there was a tidal wave and they had to protect their treasure by laying down and holding the ball.  Other times they had to address the captain by stopping and putting their foot on the ball and saluting the coach saying 'aye aye captain'.
This was a wonderful way to spend the morning.  Nolan loved it.  I loved it.  The weather was beautiful.
The second lesson was sunday and they pretended they were searching for Nemo.  I didn't attend but Dave said it was really cute.  Can't wait to see what's in store for next week!

He Wants To Be A "Worker"

I'm not sure if it was his enthusiasm for the sandbox or if it was the fact that there was a pickup in our driveway, maybe it was the shovels and wheelbarrow or that his 'pal' Joe was helping but Nolan was SO determined to be a worker when we got sand for the sandbox.
He blasted out of the house, shovel in hand (and sneakers on) and insisted on helping.
He watched how Joe used the big shovel and Nolan did the same, used the same movements and was angry that he couldn't push the wheelbarrow.  But he was a worker this day.
And he even got to drive the wheelbarrow- quite a wobbly driver!
Sometimes if you ask Nolan what he wants to be when he grows up he says he wants to be a worker (specifically one that fixes ceiling fans and builds houses).  I think he will be handy.  He always needs to help and can often be quite helpful.  He's a busy little bee!

Sandbox

Before our neighbor brought a ton of sand I picked up some from a friend who was done using her sandbox.
After the days of rain (and waiting for the cover and stakes to arrive in the mail) Nolan and I started filling the sandbox, small shovel by small shovel full until I could lift the garbage pails on my own to dump them out.
Nolan using a trowel to move sand from the garbage can to the sandbox
Then we got to playing.  And for about 30 minutes both Emily and Nolan played quietly in the sandbox.
We gathered sand toys and trucks and filled the box with all sorts of fun!
 This makes me very happy!

Visit to the Zoo and Learning as I Go

My mom was visiting this weekend and on Friday we went to the zoo.  It was a great trip, the perfect size zoo, distance from home etc.  What I'm discovering is that sometimes the most precious moments are the least expected ones.  Like these two looking at ducks.
And unlike this forced photo opp to sit on the alligator.
Midway through our day Emily was getting ansy and Nolan started running around, losing control and just needed to blow off some steam so we took a break in front of the Llama.  Emily walked around in an attempt to chase Nolan.
Nolan seemed oblivious to anyone else and just wanted to throw rocks.   So for about 20 minutes we watched a blue blur speed around picking up rocks and throwing them (not in the direction of the llama, of course) and Emily waddling after him.
If we didn't ride the carousel, that would have been my favorite part of the day.  Sometimes its just fun to let them run and do whatever it is they want to do.   But then we rode on the carousel.  This was Emily's first ride and she is a fan.
I was surprised that she didn't seem scared or nervous, she just enjoyed the wind blowing in her face.
 Nolan enjoys it too!
What a great day!  Animals and all!

Wings

Emily and Nolan both got wings for Easter.  I thought Nolan would be all over these since he almost always puts on friends' wings when we visit their house.  I have been most surprised how often Emily asks to wear them.  She will sometimes point and sometimes bring them to me to put on her.  Sometimes she sits and plays with them on, sometimes she then wants them off but her interest in them makes me feel happy for some reason.  Everyone should have a pair of wings for those days.
