Video Friday: Adorable? Or Demonic?

video
Emily has this sound that she makes that is absolutely hysterical.  The first time she did it she was maybe 4.5 months old, she screamed a lot and didn't really make other sounds until this.  She's been making this sound for a while and it's about time I got it on video.  So here it is.  So the question is: Is it super cute?  Or demonic?  I think it's adorable.

The Next Bestselling Author?

A few days ago Nolan declared he wanted to make a book.  So he got some crayons and a notebook and started drawing and describing a story that he was drawing.
Nolan using Snoopy to draw a snoopy- looking from the snoopy doll to his paper to properly depict such character
Then he laid out each page as if it were a storyboard.  He continued to describe the story to me.  It was all over the place but it came back around.  And even had some big words in it- like commotion!
This was SO SO fun to watch him focus and create!
And here's the book!  Written by my little author!

Video Friday: Showing Off All of Her Tricks

video
Here is Emily showing off all of her tricks, walking behind the walker and standing up on her own.  She looks like an old lady to me, walking behind her walker.  She and Nolan love doing this together.  Well actually Nolan goes a little too fast for her but they do it together.  So cute.

Visit With Gramma

What Emily might be thinking:

Hey Gramma!  What'cha got in this giant suitcase?  Oh, presents for me and my brother... that's right!  Thank you thank you thank you!
What she's probably not thinking:
Now that it's empty, do you think I can fit in here?  You know, we've become friends, I don't freak out when you touch me or when my mom leaves the room.  Think you can take me home now?

9 Months Old!

Emily is 9 months old.  And perfect.  She weights 18 lb. 7 oz (54%) and is 28 inches long (62%).  She is 4.5 lbs lighter than Nolan was at this age and 2 inches shorter- we call her our little peanut. She is meeting all the appropriate milestones and is quite funny.  Her personality is coming out and she's a little cookoo-nut and quite feisty.
She still has some terrible separation anxiety, I think a large reason for that is we don't have anyone else who is a constant in our lives to help make her comfortable.  She has been struggling with this since about 3 months old (the earliest or pediatrician has ever seen).  This is really hard for us (to get a break, to get out, etc) but when my Mom and Aunt were here for New Years after a few days Emily was happy to be left with them.  That's a great sign.
She is eating tons, often more than Nolan at meals and as much as Dave and I sometimes.  She is starting to show signs of frustration and even throwing her fork if we're not giving her what she wants.  She can sign for 'more' but doesn't seem completely sure what that means.  I think she might believe 'more' to mean 'more cheerios please' but it's some sort of communication which is awesome.  She can clap her hands and still loves to dance/bob up and down to music.
She loves to roll the ball back and forth and practice standing on her own.  She also loves to follow Nolan around and they are starting to 'play' which is fun and terrifying at the same time.  Nolan loves Emily (most of the time) and has a really sweet 'Emily voice' he uses when he talks to her.  They are getting along swell, so long as Emily is ok with Nolan taking her toy out of her hand.  She has just started to protest this act so I think we're entering into a new phase of 'communication'.  All in all Emily is doing great and is lots of fun!

Video Friday: Practice Makes Perfect

video
It's crazy to me how quickly Emily has gone from crawling to standing.  In fact, she was standing earlier than she was 'crawling'.  So this practicing or whatever you call it makes me wonder just how soon she's going to walk?  For a while I wondered why she was so interested in the bathroom until I realized this stool must be the perfect height for her to practice standing on her own.  If you need Emily these days she will either be at the bottom of the stairs (those are perfect height too) or at this step letting go and catching her balance.  She can stand without holding on for up to 8 seconds or so.  The other day when she tried standing at her bouncy chair and fell head first into it and couldn't get out.  We heard her grunting and looked over with her feet in the air... that was a funny moment.

Fireman Nolan

Nolan sometimes gears up in his fireman suit, equipped with his ax, badge, fire extinguisher and chain saw.  Yes, it's a standard.  About a year ago he often watching a show about firemen and they show the kids the jaws of life and explain what it's for.  I think he believes he's carrying the jaws of life.

So Fun

This one is SO much fun right now.  Her personality is shining through and it's very funny.  While Nolan was an in-your-face kid, Emily just seems to find delight in taking things in.  She LOVES watching Nolan and when Nolan isn't purposefully hurting her (yeah, this is a fun phase) she thinks he's the most interesting person in the world.  In fact, we joke about it.  For some reason she finds simple things hysterical, like when she's standing at one of the dining room chairs and we peek through the other side.  Just a delightful little girl.

Video Friday: Spontaneous Caroling

video
On Christmas Emily got maracas and Nolan got a microphone.  But everythings a microphone when it comes to singing Rudolph.  Here's one of my favorite moments of Christmas 2013.  Sorry it's a bit late.

Happy Bundle

Emily is so happy.  She's so easy and after my mom and aunt's visit she seems to be ok with other people holding her or caring for her.
Whew.  Thank goodness.  That was a big concern for me.  It helps immensely to be able to have someone take care of her while I do something.  It made having company here so much easier and just makes for a more pleasant baby all around.
It's been COLD here.  So Emily's been wearing this to preschool drop offs.  It's adorable, a little small for her but all around warm.  Hoping to find another one equally as warm and not bulky in bigger size for the rest of the winter.  She looks so darn cute!

I LOVE OUR LIBRARY

Our library has started offering backpacks for kids.  They include some books, a cd and an activity or two all with the same theme.  We got this for Nolan a few days before christmas.  He was driving us a little nuts with needing us to lead him in play and just needing us to be focused 100% on him.
And then we got the backpack.  Seriously, he stayed occupied for about 40 minutes!  FORTY MINUTES.  Amazing.  We just returned that backpack and got a new one for him.  I hope he loves the new one as much.  It's such a great idea and he loves that it comes in his own backpack!

North Pole Express Train Ride

A few years ago we took Nolan on a train ride with Santa and he fell asleep.  It was fun but the timing just never seems to line up right for us.  But a friend fell ill and we needed to get out of the house so we took their tickets and rode to the North Pole!
They encourage kids to wear their PJs and serve hot cocoa.  We had an elf as a guide who led us in Christmas caroling and the telling of the night before Christmas.
We'd never gone on this ride before and it was after Christmas so we weren't sure if we'd see Santa.  We really had no idea what this would be like.
Nolan kept asking if we'd see the big guy and we had no idea.  Suddenly we 'arrived' at the North Pole station and it was all lit up with Christmas lights appearing to be an actual train station and who was there waving to our train?!?!  SANTA!  That was so cool, Nolan was so excited and we were too.  AND THEN we heard Santa was boarding the train!  Look at this kid...
It's hard to be patient but he was.  It was SO fun to see Nolan's excitement.
Santa gave the kids some bells and then the 'sleepyheads' brought us some hot cocoa and Mrs. Claus stopped by and brought us cookies too!  It was a really special night out!  We had a great time.
I think we might need to try to make this one a tradition!
