How Much Does He Love This?

I just love waking him up.  I mean, look how angelic he appears.  Snuggling up with Morning Bear and arm hanging off the side of the bed?
And still.  When he sleeps he lays still.  That's nice.
This kid LOVES his bed.  Whenever anyone new comes over he makes them look at his bed.  Sometimes he even pulls them into his room and waits for a compliment.  I just LOVE him.

Movie Night

We had our first Family Movie Night this weekend!  Complete with popcorn, which Nolan gobbled up like any movie-goer should.  We watched Frosty the Snowman.
And he really loved the movie.  And did I mention the popcorn?  Yeah, this kid had a blast watching a 30 minute movie.  He laughed at the right spots and added commentary too.
And after the movie I presented Nolan with his own Frosty who now resides in Nolan's room (when he's a good boy).
We're looking forward to more short movie nights, complete with popcorn and an associated Christmastime treat.  Charlie Brown's Christmas is up next.  We have a great snoopy playing a piano that he has loved for the past Christmases.

Not sure why

But this picture is totally funny!  Nolan pretends to gobble up this drumstick with a giant mouth and a little roar.  But instead for the photo he just froze and refused to do it again.  Too bad, he was so funny.

Out of Storage

So I've reached my limit on free storage photos on my blog which means I need to either pay for my blog to continue or post without photos (what's the point in that?).  I'm off to research other options- sorry for the week of no posts.  It's been a heck of a week!

Tuesday we found out that we're having a girl baby!  Nolan was in utter disbelief when I told him.  In fact he laughed and said 'no it's not a girl baby, it's a boy baby'.  Then we talked more about it and he seems to get it.  He even offered one of his toys (the steering wheel from his stroller) as a toy for 'the girl in yous betty' (betty = belly) to play with.  Very funny.

Thursday we took a trip for Thanksgiving.  Thankfully he did very well while we were at Nana and Gaga's house, he LOVED the trip to the playground as well as the crackers and chips available and within his reach.  He also loved playing with Uncle Jimmy on the slides and even pretended to get stuck in the slide like Uncle Jimmy did.

Friday we chilled out, relaxed and got back on track.  I was feeling under the weather and woke up today feeling pretty awful.  So I 'called in sick' today and took this morning off- THANK YOU DAVE!

I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving!  Now bring on the Christmas songs, decorations, lights, trees and Santa!  I just love this time of year!

Still Loves It

When Nolan was a baby, he LOVED this thing.  So when we got it back to use for baby #2 its like he knew he loved it.  He crawled under and watched the crazy star flash lights and sing its song like he spent much of his time when he was little.
Here he is, can you believe how much has changed?  Crazy!  I can't believe Nolan was ever this small!  So crazy!
Here's one of my favorites from his 'photo shoot' with Uncle Rich.  He made lots of funny faces.  It's fun to go through the old photos of him.

Video Friday: Happy Birthday

I'ts been one of those weeks.  You know, the one where by Tuesday you are already hoping it's Friday?  By Friday you wake up already defeated?  By Friday at noon you're crying into your applesauce while your child (who has portrayed the devil all morning) asks if you are sad and then wants to give you a hug to 'make you feel better'.  Sometimes I wish I could have the attention span of a toddler, one who gets mad and then happy within 60 seconds and forgot what he was upset about in another 30 seconds?

The crazy part is, I've had some really great moments this week too, it's sometimes hard to see the great moments when you're exhausted from lack of sleep or frustrated and embarrassed that your child acts like a bully to other children who are younger than him.  This week I have been feeling the baby move which is very exciting.  I had a super night out with the girls last night which, despite the lack of wine consumption resulted in some hilarious topics discussed and gut cramping laughter.  Let's hope next week isn't as much of an up and down roller coaster as this week was.

Another Bribe

Nolan has been a bit more difficult these days and my go-to (and beloved) time-out doesn't always work.  He generally has to go to timeout because he is NOT doing something rather than him doing something I want him to stop.  So if I tell him to get dressed orcome sit so I can put his shoes on and he says 'no' then me telling him (after counting to 3) to go to timeout just gets a 'no' response too.

We've decided that what we will do is to take away special treats.  When we started doing this we realized that he actually doesn't get very many special treats.  So we starting adding special treats into his life when he is good and taking them away when he is bad (for example: the pillow, sleep with a special friend, watch videos on the computer when I take a shower or use my Ipod Touch to play games).  These are all generally new 'treats' and the threat of not having them works pretty well, I must say.

Another bribe that he LOVES to do is to go outside and look for stars and the moon before bedtime.  So here they are, before it started getting very dark at bedtime, checking for stars and the moon.  It's a really cute thing, Nolan LOVES it.  I can't wait until the moon starts coming out that late.  He loves the moon!

Special Reward

For a few days Nolan was having a hard time getting to sleep and even waking up and crying in the middle of the night a few times.  This is very rare (yes, we are lucky) and we didn't know what to do.  So we bribed him.
We removed all of his special friends and told him if he did a good job sleeping and not crying when it was time to go to bed or in the middle of the night for 5 days in a row we'd get him a pillow.
Bribery works.  Here he is, proud as can be, with his little pillow.  I'm praying he actually falls asleep today with the pillow in his bed and that it's not just another distraction.

Can I Eat It?

We got a little snow yesterday and went outside to make a snowman which means I made the snowman while Nolan shoveled snow from our yard onto the walkway.
We attempted riding in the sled but I think the snow was too wet.  Or maybe I'm way out of practice and don't know how to do it.  He rode for about 15 feet and declared himself finished.
Then he brushed off my car a bit, did some more shoveling and then he asked if he could eat some snow...
SURE, as long as it's clean.  So he picked up a tiny bit and ate it.  I picked up a huge hunk and he dove right in.
Sometimes this kid is SO my child.  I can remember walking around carrying snowballs just chewing on them.  I took a bite today for old times sake- not so good...
However I am completely thrilled about my new winter coat and snow boots that I bought on fantastic discount last spring and finally got to use.  My feet and legs were not wet in the slightest.  I was warm and cozy and even when I was leaning over to make the snowman I didn't feel restricted.  Awesome.  Now I just need to find a hat that doesn't look completely absurd on me and some waterproof gloves that are size small.

Nolan's Loot

After our trick or treating around a single block in our neighborhood Nolan had plenty of goods to sift through before he found the good stuff.
Little does he realize we've eaten most of it or packed it up to send overseas.  Poor kid doesn't even know what hit him.  But here he is, checking out his goody bag.
My favorite part of Halloween was sitting across the table with my brother, sorting out all of our loot and making trades.  Do kids even do that anymore?  Halloween was loads of fun, he had a blast.  I can't wait to get the candy out of my house!

A Special Gift

On Halloween one of the old men in our neighborhood, Mickey, the one who obsessively sweeps his driveway, hand waters his lawn, mows it with scissors and completely drywalled the neighbor's garage complete with crown molding, stopped by.  He doesn't speak English and can't hear but Nolan is obsessed with what he's doing.
Probably because every day he's doing SOMETHING in his yard.  So Mickey stopped by to drop off a gift and through hand motions it seems it's a gift for Nolan because Nolan always says hi and waves to him.  Little does Mickey know that Nolan waves to him almost every day just he can't hear him so he misses about 75% of the 'hi's.
In the gift bag is was a red car that Nolan LOVES.  He gave Mickey a hug (after wiping something from his chin) and then said 'Cank You' in the smallest voice possible.  And then for the next 3 days played solely with this toy.  I've never even seen Nolan play like this, laying down driving cars.  What a kind gesture!
He is a lucky boy!

Video Friday: My Little Scooter

Nolan is great on his scooter and bike.  Here he is scooting away.  See how fast he is?  We haven't ventured on the roads with either sets of wheels but when we do, look out world!
