Day Two of Man Weekend was pretty successful. We went out for wings, hit the batting cages, and reviewed lawn maintenance. Well, not really. We went to the grocery store where Nolan charmed all the old ladies and spent most of the day playing in the basement in the nest of pillows and blankets that Nolan has been building lately. He did a bit more walking and gave me lots of hugs, which really made me overlook all the spoon-dropping that went on during meal times.
We miss Colleen and hope she's having a great time and some well-deserved alone-time.

I guess I should say from the start that I do not at all underestimate the difficulty of caring for Nolan on a daily basis. I try to pull my weight before/after work and on the weekends. Even though I'm not truly alone during most of those times, it can still be exhausting. So while I think I know what I'm in for, I will surely learn little things that Colleen deals with every day (like how hard it is to get out of the house on time without feeling like you've forgetten all kinds of essential items).
I should also say that Colleen does an amazing job with our little boy. As you can probably tell from all of the pictures, videos, and anecdotes on this blog, we have one happy, healthy, smart, all-around good baby. Colleen deserves the credit for this, as she takes her job very seriously and gives Nolan her best every day.
Anyhow, Day One of Man Weekend went really well. Nolan napped like a champ this morning, showed off his walking at Library Class, and was a trooper for our road trip to Massachusetts to visit baby AJ. He also got to hang around with Nana, Grampa, Auntie Barbara, and Uncle Fred where he did even more walking and impressed everyone with his ball-passing skills.
Now we are home and tired. Colleen showed me how to load pictures and videos so I'll try to do a bit of that with tomorrow's update.

And it looks like he's waving here. Or roaring like a lion with his paw up. Either way, I love this.

While he only gets a few minutes here and a few minutes there, it is a great tool to get him to change his mind about bee-lining to the stairs or cranking about seemingly nothing.

I don't know where this came from again but he's doing it so much he's drooling/spitting all over himself and everything. And then he finds his drool puddle and thinks it's fun to investigate (read: stick fingers in). It's a little gross and a little funny all that the same time. Clearly he thinks it's funny too.

If you're happy and you know it, stomp your feet. Nolan loves to stop his feet. When he hears the 'if you're happy and you know it' song he immediately starts doing it. He's pretty funny, this kid.
This week was wild with lots of great happenings and lots of not-so-great happenings. At music class on wednesday we played with the bells and he only put one in his mouth one time! That is a huge accomplishment. He played on the drum with his pal, was the center of attention when we played with the scarfs (he put it on his head and crawled around) and helped turn out the lights for the lullaby part.
ps- It turns out if you lessen the quality of your video it loads quicker on this site- what an idea. Sorry for the grainy image. I wish there was something in between.

While skyping with the Grandparents Nolan had a few crackers and something to drink (thank goodness). He had a great time showing off some of his skills while looking like the etrade baby. It was the first skype chat with my parents in a while that he wasn't wiggling and banging on the keyboard.
We'll try this approach again! Thanks for the chat Gramma and Grampa Jack!

I'll be really sad when he grows out of this shirt, it's so funny, a thermal hoodie with a t shirt over it. He looks like a mini teenager... well, except for the Elmo on the shirt.

When it was first put together we put him in there so we could do some clean up. He was horsing around in there and acting like a regular clown. I was worried he'd fail to nap since it was new and exciting but he was a champ.

During our snow days it has been fun to just be 'in' and not running out to classes etc (somewhat) because I get to watch Nolan play and explore. Sometimes it's really not interesting, like when he watched the blinking dots (:) that indicate seconds on our digital clock... for three full minutes. And sometimes he just wants to crawl around putting everything in his mouth. Sometimes he can 'read' books for long periods- just flipping through them from start to finish and then going back to his favorite pages. Lately he's been throwing his balls and chasing them and most recently (and most amusing) is him putting things on his head.
What he keeps looking at is his reflection in the glass of our tv table. This video is so cute because he worked SO hard to get this on his head. You don't see the 10 minutes or so that he'd already been doing this or the 60 seconds immediately before this clip of him attempting to but failing at getting it on his head.
AUTHOR NOTE: I don't know why the video isn't working but I'm disappointed to not post the video- it is really cute and I've been thinking about this post since Monday!

So after some coffee and yoga, our little friend slept great yesterday. Maybe the kid needs more zen in his morning.

Tomorrow we'll talk about what a snow day is for Nolan and how he gets through the day...
