Magic Sleeping Pants

We have always swaddled Nolan to sleep. So when we decided to 'sleep train' Nolan I was stumped what to have him sleep in. We couldn't swaddle him since he needed to learn how to self soothe. He sure loves his toes and feet so I wanted him to have access to them in case that brought him comfort with his sleep efforts. Footed PJs were out of the question. Besides it is too hot to have long sleeves and pants on. And if he is wailing for hours, he'd work up a sweat.
After skyping with my parents, I thought about what my mom said--she thought he'd be too cold in a onesie. I didn't know what to do. My mom was right. In a onesie he would be too cold. So we decided he could wear a onesie and pants. We came upon some striped pants that makes him look a bit like a prisoner.

After one night of very successful sleep training, Dave and I were amazed. We couldn't believe how well he did. We figured our success was because of his magic sleeping pants. But the naps were really the test. So for each nap, we put on his magic sleeping pants, read a book and rocked until he is drowsy and placed him in his crib. And after a day of great napping, crying no longer than 9 minutes at each nap attempt, we were amazed! He is a sleep genius! And those pants are magic.

Nolan's second night of sleep training was amazingly better than the first! He fell asleep in about 8 minutes, at 7:45 or so and slept until 6:30am without a peep all night! Turns out the kid needed to be spread out, not swaddled. Every time we check on him he looks like this. Sprawled out, taking up as much space as he could. And check out those pants!
