Rainy Tuesday

Wow, it's raining cats and dogs out there today. We're staying in. Yikes. We had a kind-of boring day, I can't believe it's 2:30 already! Where did the day go?

I think I need to resolve to just getting up when the little man wakes about 7:30 instead of trying to get him to sleep again. He isn't a big morningtime napper and while I could use some more zzzzz's, the little man is more of an afternoon snoozer. Today I tried to get him to sleep but he really wasn't interested... too bad, I sure was. With this nasty rain it was a perfect morning to pull the shades down and lounge in bed. I even brought Nolan to the bed with me (we don't do much in the bed) but he could care less. He wanted to be awake.

Back to Work

Today Nolan and I visited my office. He was a champ and slept the whole time, much to the dismay of my coworkers. It was funny to hear some of the comments people said- that he has a nice shaped head. That he has clear skin. That he has nice hands. It's too bad he didn't wake up but I'm sure I'll be back again sometime in the next few weeks.

Tomorrow Nolan will be 3 weeks old. He is growing, he looks longer and bigger than last week. And after 3 weeks I'm pleased to report that I've showered every day I've been home before noon and MOST (not all) days I've gotten out of the house. Some days have been too cold or rainy. I'm not sure we're getting out tomorrow, sadly there is more nasty rain on the forecast and I can't think of where to go. So tomorrow might be an 'in' day. Ah, oh well. And MOST (not all) days Nolan is read to. Dave is better at that than I am but I've been reading my smutty book and censoring the swear words. I think he likes my voice, not the content, right?

Exhausting Day

Friday was exhausting! Dave took a vacation day and we had an absolutely lovely, but exhausting, day. Nolan had a bottle and the pacifier. He played a bit in his activity mat and did some tummy time (lay the kid on his stomach and watch him squirm until he melts down). He also has a clogged tear duct or something causing goop in his eye, so he has to battle me wiping it with warm water several times a day (which he really does NOT like). Another first, that already has been added to his baby book, is his first trip to the Wood N Tap, the restaurant where Dave and I met on our first date, where we had our rehearsal dinner and where we spend many of our monthaversary celebrations. And Nolan was a champ! He slept through our meal without a peep! So fun! But very exhausting for both of my boys- God, aren't they both precious?

Nolan's first bottle

We were so excited to introduce the bottle and pacifier. We haven't decided what cheesy/baby name we'll call the pacifier (binky, paci etc) it was very exciting and nerve wracking. But he is a champ and took to the bottle with no questions. I'm hoping he goes back to nursing with ease too. Keep your fingers crossed for next feeding session.

And last night I SWEAR he was playing. He was batting at a little jingly toy that hung near his face. That was cool!

Notice his shirt! Yep, paying homage to his roots. Just because he's got the bottle doesn't mean he needs to forget where he came from!

Not quite cross eyed baby photo

Nolan does this really cute thing with his eyes. Actually he probably isn't 'doing' anything because he can't control it, but he gets cross eyed. And it is adorable. He makes his little mouth in a small 'o' too which just makes your heart melt. I've tried to capture this in photos and have failed. It's too bad too because we just love it. Here's a close, but not quite photo. Still cute, but not the cross-eyed little baby we laugh about. He'll soon gain control of his eyes and we won't see that cross-eyed baby, but that's part of parenting, right, enjoying the times we have because they 'grow up so quickly'.

Dr visit

Big happenings in Nolan's life after our doctors visit. He now weighs 7lbs and 12 oz. but even more exciting is we've moved out of survival mode and into parenting mode. We have all sorts of new initiatives- pumping and introducing a bottle, tummy time, pacifier, playing. It's all so exciting he can hardly contain his excitement!

Internal debate...

Disclaimer: this might be gross and inappropriate to talk about. If you are squeemish or just think poop and pee-pee talk is disgusting, click away from the page immediately.

Yesterday we had a lovely day, filled with stuff getting done, visits from friends and a plan to go to BJs and take a walk. At times we were even sitting around waiting for Prince Nolan to awake from his slumber so we could take on the next task. Since I'm nursing, and still getting a handle on things, I don't want to be 'out' and have to nurse quite yet.

I suggest to Dave he hit up the grocery store just to get that task completed. Just as he leaves, Prince Nolan wakes up screaming. I check is drawers and he's got some poop but the diaper indicator does not indicate he has yet peed. Strange since his pee comes more frequently than poo. Anyway, so I start to clean him up, holding is feet up high and wiping his little bum when suddenly his bum starts to seep bright orange lava... (that's the color of his poo). Yes, he's pooing while I'm wiping! I cry out 'Oh no' and start to wipe but the lava is getting everywhere, on his clothes, on the little outfit, on the changing pad. I'm laughing and telling him to hold on when suddenly a spray starts on his shirt and all over the wall next to the changing table. He's peeing on himself. And the wall! So I cover him with his poopy diaper b/c that's the closest thing to stop him from peeing all over the place. Then I grab a new diaper and place it on his nether-regions. I don't even know what to do next! When suddenly his entire shirt is soaking wet! So I grab the diaper to peek and his pee sprays longer all over his FACE. Oh god, I'm laughing hysterically now, he's screaming bloody murder and we've got a serious mess on our hands.

Needless to say we got it all taken care of and took a tub bath for the first time as a result. What a mess. Poor little guy. I suppose that doesn't really count for me getting peed on, since it was little Nolan taking all the abuse. But my word, it was funny.
ps- so this is what it's come to: blogs about pee and poop. Sorry, that's what my life is all about right now... Pee, Poop and boobs.

Crazy Friday

Today we had an interesting day. It's hard to say we were on a routine but Wednesday and Thursday went by similarly which was great: a good night sleep and a nice mix of sleep and awake time during the day. Except today Nolan didn't sleep in the morning and slept most of the afternoon and early evening... with very short feedings... I'm so scared for tonight... wish us luck!

Big day out

We went out today. In the car. I was scared and confess I did pull over once to make sure he was still breathing...don't judge me. There is a lot of 'have faith' with this having-a-kid thing. But the trip was successful, he's doing great and so am I.

Happy St Patricks Day!

Today was my first day home alone with Nolan. We had a great night and a lovely day. hoping for another great one tomorrow where we will venture out in the car together... if I don't chicken out.

Figuring things out...

So our little peanut is teeny and he looks so small in his crib. He sleeps in this during the day, when he gets his best sleep. We keep telling him that he needs to sleep well at night and not as well during the day... hopefully he'll listen soon. Nights aren't so bad, but end up being very long since that's his awake time.

We went for our first walk today. It was a lovely day, weather wise and Nolan was a champ, he behaved, kept his hands inside the ride at all times and slept the whole way. It was also my first walk since the delivery. It felt good, I was real tired after the short walk and my legs are a bit sore, but it was so nice to get outside.
And he got his first bath at home. Well, it wasn't a tub bath, but he did a good job and really liked having his hair washed. I would too if I had hair that soft! His little body and head are so wrinkly but it's just precious.

Life is still grand. Despite the screwy sleeping, we're all doing well. Nolan has surpassed his birth weight and the pediatrician declares him perfect. :) He was so quiet and well behaved. It's funny, a friend told us to be sure to pack a diaper for our trip out to the doctor. We did, plus two burp cloths. We had no idea what else to pack. So, at the doctors office, we had to take off all his clothes. The nurse told us we could wrap him up in a blanket for a bit until the doctor arrived... which would have been nice if we had a blanket... so we wrapped him in burp cloths. Mental note: Pack a blanket and diapers.

This baby is still cooking- 40 weeks belly photos

So after being told my baby is perfect at the doctors appointment today (well, aside from not showing up on it's due date) I am feeling fabulous. Well, ok, as fabulous as a woman can at this point. There is nothing really 'new' to report since last update. I feel good. But HUGE.

Some people have told me I look huge. Others have told me I look tiny. Strangers have told me I look great. People who know me don't tell me that. :) I think I look ok. My body looks fine, my face seems to have been swollen so that my nose and cheeks swallow up my other features when I smile (notice the not quite smiles in these photos). And I move a lot slower.

Today is my due date. Baby hasn't arrived yet. It still has a few more hours to arrive on it's scheduled due date, but I'm guessing it won't happen today.
